HMLR – Land Girls!

It was blue skies and sunshine all day as we welcomed the ladies (oh and a couple of guys) of HM Land Registry Birkenhead Office to Hadlow Fields for their volunteering day in recognition of International Women’s Day.

The team of volunteers got their day started with relocating the main site woodpile from its temporary home of the last couple of years on Squirrel Campsite into our brand new log stores on Cedar Site. They then cleared the land, chopped up and sorted all the remain wood into new open pens for branches and kindling.

New log stored filled and huge pile of branches and kindling ready for camping season.
Just some of the fallen wood collected from the driveway ready for processing in to logs for alter fires.
Squirrel Campsite now the woodpile has been removed.

The rest of the volunteers got stuck into tidying up our driveway; bringing the fallen wood up to the log stores and removing the ivy growth from the trees. And this was all before lunch! But in true guiding style everyone broke for at 11 o’clock for a drink and cake!

Driveway cleared for wood and all swept.
Ivy cut back on the driveway trees.

After lunch the hard work continued with new trees being planted in Cedar Site and additional hedging added too. A number of the volunteers used their creative skills to completely refurbish one of our mosaics which will be going back up on to Orchard Wall soon and to decorate two new fairy houses. The HMLR Birkenhead volunteers were supported throughout the day by guiding volunteers from Arrowebrook and Bebington Divisions so big thank you to them as well. After everyones hard work there was still time for afternoon drinks before the volunteers headed home to put their feet up.

Mosaic repairs underway.

Everyone throughly enjoyed their day and HMLR Birkenhead Office team certainly made a huge positive impact on Hadlow Fields today. So a massive thank you everyone who came along to volunteer and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
